Just a few centuries ago, adventure tourism and mountaineering – popular activities nowadays – would have been considered complete madness. Peaks are dangerous, and the menacing homes of gods and demons, not beautiful and “conquerable” places of recreation.
The award-winning Australian documentary maker Jennifer Peedom explores the enchantment of mountains from multiple angles, combining elements from history, anthropology, sports, and nature films to create a truly beautiful and philosophical big-screen experience. The film explores the changing relationship between people and mountains, in the past as well as today, asking what attracts people to these spots.
The film was shot all over the world: in the United States, Antarctica, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Bolivia, Greenland, India, Iceland, Italy, Japan, Canada, South Africa, Nepal, Papua New Guinea, Pakistan, Scotland, Switzerland, Tibet, Chile and New Zealand.
