Bach & Bartók

Réka Szilvay, professor of the Sibelius Academy, has become one of Finland’s best-known violinists, performing with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Birmingham and Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, the St. Petersburg Maria Theater Orchestra, the Copenhagen Philharmonic Orchestra, the Copenhagen Philharmonic Orchestra, the Austrian Tonkünst conducted by Leif Segerstami, Andrew Littoni, Sakari Oramo, Adam Fischer, Osmo Vänskä, Neeme Järvi, Mikko Francki, Markus Stenzi, Juha Kangas and Fabio Luisi. Her solo performances have taken her to such world-famous concert halls as the Carnegie Hall in New York, the Konzerthaus in Vienna, the Festspielhaus in Salzburg, the Wigmore Hall in London, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Cité de la Musique in Paris and the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels.
Born in Helsinki, Réka Szilvay began her violin studies at the age of 4 under her violinist father Géza Szilvay. At the age of 12, studies at the Sibelius Academy were followed by prof. Tuomas Haapanen and in 1992–1998 at the Vienna University of Music prof. By Gerhard Schulz. She also began her international career in 1999 as a soloist in the Sibelius Violin Concerto at the Vienna Musikverein.

Réka Szilvay and her students from the Sibelius Academy, Amanda Ernesaks, Aino Yamaguchi and Triinu Piirsalu will perform as soloists at the concert.

The concert programme will feature Johann Sebastian Bach’s beloved double violin concert, a work performed for centuries in a joint performance by the teacher and the student. This tradition is also honored at this concert, and Réka Szilvay will perform the three parts with her three students. In addition, we will hear Bach’s solo violin works and Bartók’s brilliant violin parts created especially for the teacher-student couple. The concert will also feature a chamber orchestra of Réka Szilvay’s colleagues and students from the Sibelius Academy.
