Literacy

Radio Night University lecture

Sat 23. March 2024, 15:00

Location

Arvo Pärt Centre

Performers

Viivi Luik

Description

In the Radio Night University lecture, Viivi Luik talks about literacy in a broader sense: reading as an art, reading as a privilege — that literacy does not necessarily mean understanding the text being read.

Viivi Luik is a prose writer, poet and essayist. Her first book was published in 1965 (a collection of poetry titled “Holiday of Clouds”). Her last book, “The Golden Crown” (2023), recently won the Grand Prize given out by the Cultural Endowment of Estonia. Between 1993 and 2014, due to her husband’s diplomatic duties, Viivi Luik resided in Finland, Italy, the USA, Latvia and Sweden. She also lived in Berlin in 1996 and in Switzerland in 2003, as part of her scholarship. Her works have been translated into many languages.

The lecture will be in Estonian.
