Description
The presentation concert of the album “Ester Mägi. Collected Songs for the Female Voice” will feature Mägi’s works for solo voice written over more than half a century between 1946 and 2005. Among the 30 recorded works, the concert will feature both well-known romances and Mägi’s almost unperformed early work, which has been recorded for the first time on this album. The concert will also feature world premieres of these songs. The concert will be enriched by songs written by Mägi herself for various chamber music ensembles as well as arrangements by Heiki Mätlik.
The recording of “Ester Mägi. Collected Songs for the Female Voice” took place in November 2022 at the Arvo Pärt Centre, marking the centenary of Ester Mägi’s birth. During the project, all songs that had previously only been available in manuscript form were given new sheet music graphics and are available to those interested in the Estonian Music Information Centre.
Performers include Maarja Purga (mezzo-soprano), Sten Lassmann (piano), Kaija Lukas (violin), Mari-Liis Vind (flute), Kirill Ogorodnikov (guitar), Valle-Rasmus Roots (cello). The program will feature songs by Ester Mägi for female voice, inspired by folk music, nature and love. The concert is dedicated to Ester Mägi’s 103rd birthday.
