Location

Arvo Pärt Centre

Performers

Rainer Sarnet
Jaan Tootsen

Description

Rainer Sarnet is one of the most original Estonian filmmakers. As the years go by, the powerful visuals of his films carry a timeless message. His latest film, “The Invisible Fight”, is a wonderful synthesis of kung fu and orthodox teachings. Only a sensitive mind of Sarnet’s vast intellectual range could come up with such striking content and form.

The following will be discussed at Radio Night University:

What is a good work of art, whatever the genre? Is art a means or an end in itself? If art is a means, what is the meaning of Life? The sacred and the profane — do the smell of manure and the gentle glow of the Milky Way come from the same source? The role of the artist in society. What are the questions you are trying to answer? Life’s greatest insights. How to come to terms with the world and yourself?

Interviewed by Jaan Tootsen, the founder of Radio Night University, who has said: “It seems to me that whatever we do in life — from brushing our teeth in the morning to going to bed at night — we are somehow doing the same thing. We search for the truth. We seek beauty. We are looking for love. We are looking for the meaning of everything we are born into.”

The talk will be in Estonian.
