Description
A music documentary about the internationally acclaimed Latvian composer Pēteris Vasks was made in 2016 for his 70th birthday. Vasks is still at the top of his form, composing prolifically and seeing his work being performed around the world. The film focuses on the creation and premiere of the orchestral work Musica Serena, conducted by Juha Kangas in Finland. The composition is dedicated to Kangas, with whom Vasks has had a long-standing musical collaboration. The work was recently performed by Juha Kangas and the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra in Tallinn – and of course the maestro himself was present. He loves Estonia with all his heart and has many friends here.
“A composer shares his joy, love and emotion about the possibility of achieving harmony, at least in music,” says Pēteris Vasks. This sensitive and lyrical portrait reveals the sources and influences that inspired Vasks’ work: the beautiful Latvian countryside, his childhood in a pastor’s family during the Soviet era, and the endless joy of life in every moment.
The composer Pēteris Vasks will also be present at the screening.
