Description
On 29 March, Sten Heinoja, a brilliant representative of Estonian pianism and an internationally renowned interpreter, will give a solo concert at the Arvo Pärt Centre. Heinoja is a much sought-after performer on concert stages in the United States, China, Japan, India and many European countries. Heinoja is the winner of the 8th Estonian Pianists Competition (2014) and the domestic TV show “Klassikatähed” (2016), as well as 1st prize in the Kendall Taylor International Beethoven Competition in London (2018) and the prestigious Swiss Ambassador Award for his duo with violinist Roberto Ruis. He has performed as soloist with the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, Kymi Sinfonietta, Tallinn Chamber Orchestra, Tel Aviv Opera Orchestra, Järvi Academy Youth Orchestra, Estonian Sinfonietta and others. In addition to his successful solo activities, Heinoja is a valued ensemble partner, and in recent years his most important stage collaborators have included Marcel Johannes Kits, Triin Ruubel-Lilleberg and Theodor Sink. Sten Heinoja graduated with honours from the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre in the piano class of Prof. Ivari Ilya and from the Royal College of Music in London under the tutelage of Prof. Vanessa Latarche and Prof. Sofya Gulyak. He will continue his doctoral studies at EMTA from 2021.
Sten Heinoja’s interpretations are characterised by emotional intelligence, a feeling for the whole and a deep appreciation of the music’s potential for development. His programmes include works by the Viennese classics as well as music of the 20th century, which is also reflected in the Arvo Pärt Centre’s solo evening programme. The concert will open with Mozart’s masterful Piano Sonata in F major, followed by a selection of gems from the Estonian piano literature, from Eduard Tubin’s monumental “Ballad to a Theme by Mart Saar” and Mart Saar’s preludes, which demonstrate the composer’s superb piano technique, to Lepo Sumera’s dramatically effective piano works and Tõnu Kõrvits’ poetic sound world.
