Description
A programme about solitude, sleep, dreaming, grief, death. A new Sonata by Tõnu Kõrvits entitled “Sketches of Solitude”, especially written for Andres Kaljuste and Sophia Rahman and featuring a sequence of cadenzas and dreams will receive its premiere, sounding in dialogue with Dmitri Shostakovich’s viola sonata op. 147, this last masterpiece completed just a few days before the composer’s death. Also performed in concert for the first time will be a solo viola work by Mingo Rajandi, featured in the recent theatre piece “Beastesses”, and the evening’s set is completed with Brahms’ ‘lullaby of my grief’ from his Op. 117 Intermezzi, which carries the inscription;
“Schlaf sanft, mein Kind, schlaf sanft und schön!
Mich dauert’s sehr, dich weinen sehn.”
Schottisch. Aus Herder’s Volksliedern.

My heart is wae to see thee weep.”
