The second season of the Arvo Pärt Centre continues to focus on musicians and composers important to Arvo Pärt from Estonia and elsewhere. Today’s opening concert features music by Franz Schubert, one of Arvo Pärt’s favourite composers.

Creative associations in the field of architecture and the Estonian Cultural Endowment’s Architecture Foundation have selected the nominees for the 2019 Architecture Awards, the best of which will be awarded at the ceremony held in Tartu at the end of the year. Among the nominated projects are several public objects and city squares, restaurants, offices, private houses and exhibitions.

The Pärt family harmonium stood next to the door of the old archive building of the centre, where it quietly and shyly greeted everyone who entered. From time to time, Arvo Pärt or his son, the Chairman of the Council of the Centre Michael Pärt lifted the lid of the instrument, making the harmonium sing for the employees and visitors of the centre.

From 22 until 25 August, the ninth Arvo Pärt Centre film evenings will bring the viewers a new documentary about the influence of Arvo Pärt’s music. The film has already been screened at several international festivals and is now being presented to Estonian audiences for the first time. The director of the documentary, Paul Hegeman will also attend both screenings.

The very first summer season of the Arvo Pärt Centre invites you to concerts, talks and film evenings and to experience the sound of music not only in the concert hall, but also the Laulasmaa forest.

On Friday, 10 May, Tõnu Kaljuste was presented the International Classical Music Award (ICMA) in the category of Contemporary Music at a gala event in Lucerne, Switzerland. Kaljuste received the award for his recording of Arvo Pärt’s four symphonies with the NFM Wrocław Philharmonic Orchestra (ECM).

The President of the Republic of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis awarded Arvo Pärt a state decoration of Latvia, the Cross of Recognition 2nd Class (Grand Officer).

The special broadcast, Opening Celebration of the Arvo Pärt Centre (Arvo Pärdi Keskuse avamine) by Estonian Public Broadcasting received the Best Special Broadcast Award at tonight’s National Estonian Film and Television Awards. The nearly two-hour special program combining previously recorded material with live performances was broadcast on 13 October 2018.

The Estonian Association of Phonogram Producers announced the laureates of this year’s Estonian Music Entrepreneurship Awards. The festive opening of the Arvo Pärt Centre in October 2018 was selected as the Music Event of the Year.
