Bachtrack, the largest classical event database released their charts with the performance statistics for 2018 confirming Arvo Pärt as the most performed contemporary composer in the world for the eighth consecutive year.
Besides Arvo Pärt, the top four of the most performed contemporary composers include John Williams, Jörg Widmann and Sir James MacMillan. The most performed female composer was Kaija Saariaho.
In 2018, the most performed composers in general were Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Ludwig van Beethoven. Leonard Bernstein, whose 100th anniversary was celebrated last year, reached third place in the ranking. The most performed piece of the year was Bernstein’s West Side Story Suite.
Last year’s most active conductors were Andris Nelsons, Valery Gergiev and Paavo Järvi.
Based in the UK, Bachtrack collected data on 33,578 music events last year.
